Your Task

As a team of 3-4 (depending on class size), prepare and deliver a 10-minute presentation on a digital marketing trend impacting marketing practice using the APAA framework. The trends will be assigned to your group at the start of the week 9 class.

Assessment Description

In this in-class group assessment, students will be given an opportunity to explore one digital trend that businesses should consider integrating into their future marketing communication strategies. In addition to this, students will be given an opportunity to develop a better understanding of how the various trends impacting marketers in today’s digital orientated world can affect the APAA framework (see below):

Assessment Instructions

During week 8, your workshop facilitator will form the class into groups of 3 to 4 members (no more). Your attendance is mandatory to a) get acquainted with your group members and b) review the trend that your workshop facilitator will assign to your group. Further guidance will be provided on the day of your scheduled class.

Before week 9, you must individually research the assigned digital trend. In doing this, you must determine how digital marketers use this trend by comparing its advantages and disadvantages. During week 9, you and your group must participate in a 60-minute in-class activity during which you are required to discuss your individual research result collaboratively. Based on this discussion, you and your group must then determine how the assigned digital trend impacts various businesses in relation to the APPA framework (shown above). Upon the conclusion of your discussion, your group is to deliver a 10-minute presentation to the rest of the class using PowerPoint slides. Your group should assume the role of ‘marketing consultants’. In presenting your group’s findings, you must address the following:

1. An introduction of your team and the assigned digital trend. Please explain the trend’s rise to popularity, i.e., why and how it is used.

2. An analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the digital trend: What are the impacts of the digital trend on marketing practitioners?

3. An analysis of how businesses can adopt this digital trend using the APAA framework: Which quadrant of the APAA framework best suits the digital trend and why?

4. Propose how businesses can measure the success of the digital trend. Please support your proposal with relevant sources of information.

5. A concluding statement: Should the businesses readily adopt this trend, or should they exercise some caution? Please justify your stance.
