Assessment Description

Business Problem: Are Artificial Intelligence players the future of sport? Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used to enhance sports performance for some time. The next advance in this technology will be to have AI players in sports such as soccer, ping pong, golf, gymnastics, basketball, etc. We already have AI that is smart enough to mimic high level sports, however, will we see robots playing against humans in order to help them improve their game? Suppose that you are part of a project team that want to explore the potential of AI players (virtual or as robots) in improving the number (accuracy) of goals kicked by professional Australian rules footballers. You have contacts at robotics companies such as Toyota Central R&D Labs that you can collaborate with, however you need funding and permission from your company’s executives to get started on the project. One of your team will have to perform marketing analytics on data from potential football teams. Another will have to perform risk analytics in collaboration with a company such as Deloitte to see what the risk of failure is. You will also have an AI specialist and Business lead.

Your project team (business lead, marketing analytics officer, risk analytics officer and the AI specialist have to convince the executive of the company that this project is worth funding.

Assessment Task

• You will create groups of 5
• You are going to participate in a simulation of a “Stakeholder Management Meeting” where a team of project managers undertaking the above project need to:
• justify the analytics project in a general sense and explain and general style in which the project will be managed (Waterfall, Scrum, Kanban, Github or other)
• explain how your team will get data from potential football teams regarding their interest in the use of the robots
• describe how you will use predictive project analytics to examine the risk of the project
• explain the benefit of AI and the robots in improving sport such as football
• You will present it to the company executive and address his/her concerns.
• This covers LO1 and LO2

Solution

PART A: Identifying Issues

1. Justification of Analytics project- Agile

Developing an AI-based robotics team for sports (mainly football) is the main project goal of this assignment. This project will be helpful for sports team to do their practice at all possible levels. The sports team will become more efficient and their strategies will also get stronger comparatively. As per MBA Assignment Expert, To develop this big project “Scrum” project management method will be used in order to ensure the successful implementation of AI-based robots. Scrum method will help to classify the project tasks into different classes and changes can also be made in next sprints. Daily scrum meetings will help the project team to communicate, make decisions, and deploy the requirements timely and correctly based on the discussed plan. In this manner, entire project will be executed systematically and project progress will be kept in right direction. Programming for robots will be done with daily scrum meetings and each robot will be tested at regular intervals in order to examine its functionalities and required results. Thus, Scrum method will be more suitable to manage the entire AI-based robotic project for sports purposes (Wood 2017).  

2. Data Collection

To get the data from potential football team, the team will take an appointment to meet football team then each team member will ask questions based on their interest in the utilization of robots. This is a big project thus, it will be better option to directly communicate with football team. Before conducting a meeting, each team member will be responsible to prepare the most required questions or required subjects so, that the data can be collected for them in the form of their response, expectations, requirements, and demands. In other words, an interview will be conducted to get the information from potential football teams in order to use that information during the implementation of AI-based Robotic teams. Each team member will be allowed to take their interviews one by one. For example, risk analytical officers can ask relevant risks-base questions that they can predict while playing with robots so, that those risks can be resolved in advance. 

3. Predictive Project Analytics

PPA (Predictive project analytics) is a risk management method that provides the possibility to predict the major risks at any stage of project and optimize the areas where fixes for programs, projects, and transactions are required. This is a Deloitte approach in which right predictions are made based on its six stages including-

• Interviews & structured document review
• Inherent risks & complexity assessment 
• Project Predictive Analytics Review 
• Analysis & Synthesis
• Reporting (Fauser et al. 2015)

These stages are used to collect data, review areas of risk, identify risks, prioritize risks, and mitigate/control the risks.

4. Benefits of AI & Robots

• Artificial intelligence is used to predict the potential of a player based on their data (Atasoy et al. 2021). 
• Robots are very helpful tools in football as they help the football players to do the practices without any possibility of being injured.
• Robots can also help players to improve their game strategies and playing techniques (Mons 2020).
